Reimbursement & compliance
How does tutoring reimbursement work with Step Up for Students?
If your child's Florida scholarship covers tutoring, you typically pay your tutor and then submit documentation to Step Up for Students to request reimbursement from your education savings account. ScholarLedger creates the itemized, audit-ready invoices and receipts that process expects. Eligibility and approval are determined by Step Up — always check their portal for the current rules that apply to your scholarship.
What documentation do I need to get tutoring reimbursed?
Reimbursement requests generally need an invoice showing the tutor's information and credentials, each session's date and duration, the subject, the amount charged, and proof of payment. ScholarLedger captures all of this as you log sessions and generates a compliant invoice plus per-session receipts you can submit. Confirm the exact required fields against Step Up's current published requirements.
Does ScholarLedger guarantee my reimbursement will be approved?
No. ScholarLedger structures your documentation to meet published FTC-PEP requirements and flags common issues, but final approval is determined solely by Step Up for Students. Reimbursement figures shown in the app are estimates, not official balances.
Is ScholarLedger affiliated with Step Up for Students or the Florida Department of Education?
No. ScholarLedger is an independent documentation tool. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Step Up for Students or the Florida Department of Education.
What is the scholarship year, and when are reimbursements due?
ScholarLedger organizes your sessions by scholarship year, which runs July 1 through June 30. Submission deadlines and funding windows are set by Step Up for Students, so check their portal for the dates that apply to your account.
Pricing & payments
What does ScholarLedger cost to use?
Creating an account and using ScholarLedger is free, with no monthly fees. A flat 10% platform fee applies only when a parent pays a tutor through the platform, and it is shown at checkout before you pay.
Who pays the platform fee — the parent or the tutor?
The parent. Your tutor receives 100% of their stated rate, and the flat 10% platform fee (which includes payment processing) is added on top at checkout.
Is the ScholarLedger platform fee reimbursable through Step Up for Students?
Yes. The 10% platform fee is itemized on your invoice and receipts as part of your documented tutoring expense, so it's submitted for reimbursement alongside your tutor's rate — that's why the totals you see include it. As with all reimbursement, final approval is determined by Step Up for Students.
Is my payment information secure?
Yes. Payments are processed by Stripe, and ScholarLedger never stores your card details. Tutors are paid through Stripe Connect, with funds transferred directly to their connected account.
Can I use ScholarLedger only for documentation, without paying my tutor through it?
Sessions must be paid through ScholarLedger to become eligible for invoice generation and reimbursement documentation. Paying through the platform is what lets us attach verifiable proof of payment to each session.
For tutors
Do tutors have to pay anything to use ScholarLedger?
No. Tutors create a free account, receive 100% of their stated rate on every payment, and have their credentials and contact information included on each invoice.
Does ScholarLedger verify a tutor's credentials or qualifications?
No. ScholarLedger operates on an honor system and does not verify tutor identity, credentials, or qualifications. The information a tutor enters appears on invoices as provided. Parents are responsible for vetting their tutor before booking.
How and when do tutors get paid?
When a parent pays for a session through ScholarLedger, the funds transfer directly to the tutor's connected Stripe account and pay out on Stripe's standard payout schedule.
Getting started
How do I get started with ScholarLedger?
Create a free account, add your student, connect with your tutor (or accept their invite), log sessions, pay through the platform, and generate your invoice when you're ready to submit for reimbursement.
Who logs the tutoring sessions — the parent or the tutor?
Tutors log the sessions they teach, including the date, duration, subject, and amount. The parent reviews and pays, then can generate reimbursement documentation from those sessions.
Can I see how much reimbursement capacity I have left?
Yes. ScholarLedger tracks your submitted, approved, and paid amounts per student against the applicable reimbursement cap, so you can see remaining capacity for the scholarship year at a glance.
